Mediabots
A Discord server for generative AI — and a research instrument
Mediabots is a Discord server that exists for two reasons. The first is practical: a single place where students and professionals can use Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion and GPT side by side, without each member having to assemble keys and infrastructure. The second is research: every prompt, response and reaction is data for a doctoral study on how generative AI is adopted inside a community.
The community runs regular workshops that walk through specific tools and techniques, so that less-confident members can learn from more experienced ones in public. The workshops also produce a steady stream of structured interactions — useful both as material for the participants and as observations for the research.
The findings centre on network effects: who shares prompts, whose work gets remixed, and how an idea spreads from one corner of the server to the rest. The patterns are not always the obvious ones, and they form the backbone of the doctoral thesis on generative AI and creativity, awarded in May 2025.
